  Replace Building Meshes

Creation Mode: Draw Polygon on Terrain or Assign to Mask Polygon (not allowed on scenarios with start time > 0)

Purpose and Effect: Allows users to locally replace 3D building meshes of the base model with data from another 3D mesh file within one or more masked regions. This functionality primarily serves to incorporate locally available higher-accuracy data and to apply data representing planned regional redesigns. This action also enables users to remove all existing building meshes within the masked regions by not selecting a replacement file.

Replacement of meshes will occur only within the drawn mask. To create a mask that covers the entire region covered by the new mesh data, Reset Mask to File Bounds in the Action Settings Panel can be used. Different data replacement actions can be assigned to an existing mask, allowing for the replacement of various types of data (e.g., terrain and building meshes) within the same masked region.

This action replaces 3D building meshes. To replace building footprint polygons, the action Replace Buildings has to be used instead. Additional information on building type, ground level, and roof level can be read from the shape file if the respective attributes are specified in the Action Settings Panel.

Action Settings

Rotation Angle

Allows for the rotation of a single replaced mesh around its vertical axis to fit precisely into the scene.

Translation

Allows for the translation (movement) of a single replaced mesh along all three axes to fit precisely into the scene.

Transform to Terrain

Vertically moves all replaced building meshes to be situated on the terrain to avoid hovering meshes in the visualization.
